The thorium revolution is now underway; several of the world’s leading designers and constructors of civilian nuclear power stations will operate on thorium. The leading one is Atomic Energy of Canada, Ltd. (AECL). AECL has designed and is in various stages of testing modern thorium reactors.

AECL is also designing systems for the retrofitting of existing nuclear power stations to convert them from uranium to operating on thorium. AECL recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nuclear Power Institute of China (NPIC) to cooperate on the design and engineering of AECL’s famous CANDU low usage uranium reactors for the rapidly growing Chinese market. This design/engineering project will also feature thorium fueled CANDU reactors.

India has a full scale domestically designed thorium fueled reactor of 300 MW output to be constructed during its next economic five year plan.
